John Dellapina of the NY Daily News on Today’s Episode!

Everybody, be sure to check out today’s episode of the NYRangerscast as we talked for nearly a half an hour with Rangers beat writer John Dellapina of the New York Daily News.

Among the topics discussed:

  • The current state of the Rangers and reasons for the dissapointing year so far
  • Tom Renney and his job status with the Rangers
  • An inside look at Jaromir Jagr and how he’s a little misunderstood
  • Trade possibilities (or lack thereof)
  • Whether or not this team has it in them to live up to expectations

Plus…

  • John answers some of your questions
  • John gives his thoughts on the great Brian Leetch just days before his #2 rises to the Garden rafters

Eric and I want to thank Mr. Dellapina again for joining us on the podcast today. His knowledge and takes on all the issues that are prevelant among this team right now were a fantastic addition to the show and we hope to have him, and others, join us more often as we move forward.

So enjoy the episode and, again, let us know who you want to hear from and we will do our best to get them on the show.

Great interview!!! I think Dellapina gave us a lot of insight on this team. But the Rangers are in the same position for the LAST 3 YEARS. Incredible roster, struggling just to make the playoffs. Is Renney that good, or was it Jagr who came in just in time to steer this ship into the playoffs? Look what happend when they got swept by the Devils 2 years ago. No Jagr, no wins. Now that Jagr isn’t producing, look what happens. Also, Renney does seem to get outcoached on a consistant basis. But really, I do think it all starts with Lundqvist. We didn’t start taking bad penalties and breaking down as much until Lundqvist’s game started slipping. The leaders gotta step up and Renney has to start playing the top lines when you’re down a goal intead of constantly playing the Betts line. They need more physical presence on the blue line. We have enough assets to get a guy or 2. If they don’t improve in the next 2 weeks, Sather should let go of the guys who aren’t part of this roster next year, get some LONG term assets, and see who’s available come July 1st. Last but not least, Larry Brooks would be an awesome next guest.

A great podcast; Dellapina was right on and very informative. I especially liked the information on Jagr, all of which I suspected, but it was nice to hear someone who is on the ground floor can back up my hunches. This team does have what it takes to make a good run, they just need to get over it realize it is just a game and have fun. Look at the 3rd line, the are producing for us now and they just go out and play. Maybe they don’t want to get sent down or maybe they just know that this is a game they have played since they were kids and now get to do it on the biggest stage. Why not have a good time?
