Hab-out A Season Series Sweep?
If the Rangers are able to win tonight in Montreal they will not only pull off a season series sweep of the Habs for the first time in six years, but they could be as close as four points out of the top spot in the East by the end of the night.
Think about that for a second…4 points!
Considering that as little as 4 days ago this team was out of the playoff picture, that’s pretty incredible.
On the podcast a couple of episodes ago, Eric and I had a debate about whether or not the Rangers had a realistic shot of making the Stanley Cup Finals. I said they absolutely did. If they pull out tonight’s game north of the border, I don’t think there should be any question about it.
Right now, Montreal is tied with New Jersey and Ottawa for the top spot in the East. If the Rangers win tonight, they will be a combined 9-0 against the Canadiens and Devils. I know they’re 1-3 against the Sens, but the Ottawa team the Rangers played before the New Year is not the same team they would play in the playoffs.
A win tonight and the Rangers are 9-3-1 in their last 12 and are officially hot. I’m not saying you should bet your mortgage on them at this point, but I am saying that, if they win tonight, it’s time to hop back on the bandwagon.

Absolutely right, with a win tonight the Rangers are set. Period.

I know, if they win tonight, they will have turned that corner!
Steven February 19th at 6:53 pm
It’s now on you Richard. You used the dreaded “turned the corner” phrase. If they lay an egg, we know who’s fault it is…

Man, that Ode was beautiful.
Scummy February 19th at 7:59 pm
DOOBY! Nice, the corner is looking pretty rounded and whats that, Avery? Dubinksy jager and avery for president(s)?

Line looks phenomenal right now, but what’s more impressive to me is the Rangers play in their own zone so far. They’re keeping it simple. Clearing any pucks out in front to the side and working the break out to perfection. The Habs can’t get a forecheck going.

There’s that shot again! That rest did Shanny a world of good.
Scummy February 19th at 8:18 pm
Can you say perfect? hell of a period…
Kovalev looks like he’s getting frustrated, and needs a hair cut desperatly.
Dubinsky is officially my favorite player and I will be purchasing a number 17 NYR Jersey.
Henry is back!
Eric Rothman February 19th at 8:42 pm
5-0…are you kidding me? Shanny and Drury leading the way in the 2nd period. Capitalizing on Power Play opportunities. Henrik has been solid. These lines really are clicking. This team looks confident that they are going to win. No sign of them giving up. You gotta love this team right now.
Steven February 19th at 8:44 pm
Scummy said it best…perfection.
Foster February 19th at 8:53 pm
Can’t forget to mention Mr. Jagr either. He hasn’t put the puck in the back of the net but 4 assists ain’t too shabby.
Steven February 19th at 9:07 pm
Well that’s just classless. As Joe is saying on the broadcast, what the Canadien fans are doing right now is just stupid. Remeber, these are the same fans that booed the American National Anthem.
Disgusting.
Scummy February 19th at 9:23 pm
Yeah, honestly… Where’s the respect? Or Honor? Not even college fans are that… childish?

*cowers in fear*
Steven February 19th at 9:43 pm
The Rangers have to find a way to pull this one out. This would be disastrous.
Steven February 19th at 9:47 pm
They badly need to re-establish a forecheck. Too much time in the Rangers zone right now.
Steven February 19th at 10:05 pm
Big OT here. They can still pull this one out.
Scummy February 19th at 10:06 pm
Those were some scary stats Mr. Rosen just informed us about. Hope OT looks like the first period considering the 3rd was like pouring paint thinner in my eyes.
Steven February 19th at 10:13 pm
Shootout. Time for Henrik to makeup for the 5 goals and earn his paycheck…
Scummy February 19th at 10:18 pm
Whew. I’m speechless.
Inferno February 19th at 10:27 pm
I’m not. The Habs are an amazing team, that have as good a chance as any team of winning the cup. Rangers got cocky, and took their foot off the pedal, while Montreal put some nitrous into their engine. They destroyed us, and you can’t blame the goalie for this one. When the other team basically plays 30 straight minutes in your zone, you won’t win a game. Honestly, it’s because of Henrik this one even went to a shootout, he saved our butts many times during this game. He had to be a LOT better than Huet to get his team a point.
By the way, anyone else surprised the first time in Rangers history where they blow a 5 goal lead comes on the heels of Eric & Steve talking about turnaround games?
*sigh* when will you guys learn
Steven February 19th at 10:29 pm
Inferno, completely disagree on the Lundqvist point. A blog will be up about that in a couple minutes time.
And we did not call anything a turnaround game. We said they had been playing well, but steered very clear of calling it a turnaround.
Inferno February 19th at 10:34 pm
yeah, but you implied it
Inferno February 19th at 10:37 pm
On Lundqvist, I can’t believe anyone would put the blame on this one to him. The Habs owned the puck and our zone for the entire last half of the game. They had something like 9 shots at the midpoint of this game, they had like 22 after that, and at least another 30-40 attempted shots that were wide/blocked. what did we have. 7 shots on goal? something like that?
The quality of saves he made, despite the 5 goals is crazy, plus watch how the 5 goals were scored, one timers from the slot, deflections in the slot, point blankers on the doorstep. I mean, what more can you ask of the guy.
This one is on the whole team. They “folded like a cheap suit” to copy an ericism.
Steven February 19th at 10:45 pm
Inferno we agree on a lot of points, but I’m sorry I just don’t agree on this. None of the goals were impossible saves. He needs to find a way to win this game, he just has to.
