2008-2009 Schedule Released
The Rangers just announced their schedule for this season. You can access it here.
The one game that struck my eye? See October 20. Sean Avery makes his (not so) long awaited return to Madison Square Garden as the Dallas Stars pay a visit to New York.
And if you think that’s going to be a tear-jerker, you may want to take a look about what’s happening 3 nights earlier as the Rangers welcome home the prodigal son, Ryan Hollweg. Should be a great opportunity for the Blueshirts to practice their power play early on in the year.
But don’t put the tissues away just yet. The Oilers come to town shortly after, with the man who’s number #34 will one day undoubtedly be raised to the Garden rafters…Jason Strudwick.

the blackhawks. whats even better is that they play em twice! should be great matchups since the re-surgance in chicago

Richter, Leetch, Messier, Strudwick, Hollweg..has such a nice ring to it I think.

On a more serious note, two observations I made looking at the schedule:
The Rangers (and the Atlantic Division for that matter) lucked out by having to travel to Central Division cities rather than playing on the road against the Northwest Division. Games in Columbus, St. Louis, and Nashville (and to a lesser extent, Detroit) are not nearly as intimidating as going to Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Colorado or Minnesota, not to mention the fact that the travel is much easier.
Also, I was surprised that the longest homestand of the season was only three games, which happens four times according to Steve Zipay. In recent years, we’ve had six or seven home games in a row at times. I haven’t looked at every other team’s schedule, but I’d be curious as to how many have only three-game homestands also.

Yes but when will #( be hoisted to the rafters of the Garden for Bathgate/Graves?
Inferno July 21st at 3:48 pm
Rangers are going to “honor” their numbers. im guessing they will raise their numbers to the rafters in a different colored banner as a sign of respect.

Eric — trade deadline coming up, are the Reds gonna try and get something for Adam Dunn and/or Griffey? They obviously need more starting pitching, and the defense either commits way too many errors (Encarnacion!) or just doesn’t have enough range to make plays.

I think Griffey’s got to go. Bronson Arroyo might be another guy getting the boot. I think Dunn sticks around, I don’t mind Dunn as much as a lot of people. The problem is having him and Griffey in the same lineup is a liability. They need a center-fielder and a catcher, along with pitching. But it’s the Reds, so they’ll just got some A-level prospects that we’ll never hear of again.

A mid-level second baseman, at best, when they already have Phillips, and an under-achieving reliever for Griffey..not a great haul, but at least they got the White Sox to split his salary and buyout!
