Shanahan Saga Over
For Brendan Shanahan, the waiting game with the Rangers went on for long enough. Larry Brooks at the NY Post is reporting that Shanny is officially moving on with his career.
“I’ve told (agent Rick Curran) that I can no longer wait and that it’s time to move on,” Shanahan told Brooks today. “Until now, Rick has been under instructions to tell inquiring teams that my focus was on re-signing with the Rangers, and that I was not accepting any other offers. That has changed.”
It’s really amazing that Shanny waited in limbo for this long. It just goes to show how much he wanted to end his career as a Ranger. It’s a shame that wish couldn’t be fulfilled. The 2008 Ranger pace would have left Shanahan in the dust.
But, he still has some talent and hopefully he will make a return to the Garden with another team, where he will definitely receive a standing ovation,

This is a shame, however, I don’t know if there was ever any chance this season that we would see him come back.
I wonder if they could bring him in to the organization but in a non-ice position?

It would’ve been nice if Slats just manned up back in Aug. and told Shanny the Same “we’re going in a different direction…” speech they gave Jagr.
It just P***** me off that they treated him like this! He is too slow for this Ranger team but, I hope he winds up in the Western Conf.

Plebeian, in a coaching or community role a la Adam Graves, Kym Hampton (NY Liberty), etc…

I love it when people use the WNBA as a sports example. It’s so…..it’s just so cute!

i think shanny should be an announcer for NBC. Winter Classic? I mean he did win a Cup with Detroit. I hope he’ll be involved with that some way.

Richard S., ok we can go with Don Mattingly of the Yankees too..
I was also trying to keep it within the MSG Family. Look at Allan Houston, who “was cut before the end of the preseason, without appearing in a game. The Knicks plan on keeping Houston with the organization in another role.”
Yes, I am a fan of the WNBA. I am also a NASCAR and a new NHL Fan.

Gary,
you know I was kidding right?
I could see him as like an Al Trautwig type (conducting mini interviews during play stoppages and stuff) or an in between period commentator like Giannone. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a little miffed at the organization right now, even if he pretends not to be.

Plebeian, yea I could tell… I mean who would want to waste all his talent.
After getting jerked around for how many months, I would wonder if he wasnt miffed.
