Avery Done in Big D

The Dallas Stars announced today that the “Bad Boy of Hockey”, Sean Avery, will not be returning to the team.  This following the 6-game suspension over remarks Avery made regarding former girlfriends and current players in the NHL.

Avery was just 23 games into a four-year $15.5 million dollar deal that took Avery away from Broadway.

Dallas was a team, at the beginning of the year, getting a lot of hype as a Cup contender.  But, the teams lackluster 11-14-4 record had many in Bid D pointing fingers.  Most of them at Avery.

Avery was able to bring a spark to the Rangers two years ago, but that spark was a little more than Dallas was ready to handle.

What will happen to Avery is still yet to be determined.  The Stars could trade him, send him to the minors where he could be picked up on waivers, or buy out his contract.

In my opinion, I don’t think the first two options are extremely feasible at this point.  No team is going to want to trade him, or take him off waivers, and take the long term contract that came back to bite Dallas.

My guess is he sits out the remainder of the season and is given a buy out in the summer.

Many people want him back in Rangers blue.

This is a pipe dream.

First off, as much as the team improved on the ice with Avery, they grew that much further apart with him in the locker room.  Stories keep coming out about how much Rangers players really disliked this guy.  Not to mention the man who sent him packing, Glen Sather, will not go out of his way to give Avery another chance.

Avery will be back somewhere.

With a one-year contract on a team willing to take a chance.

The Rangers just won’t be that team.

The point about many Rangers teammates not liking Avery is fair, sure, but this year’s Rangers team is very, very different than last year’s, and I have a not-so-sneaky feeling that the players that didn’t like Sean were the finesse, non-physical guys like Jagr, Straka, and Malik, and we all know that the Eastern Europeapn players carried way too much weight on the team.

The Rangers’ record when Avery was in the lineup compared to their record when he wasn’t speaks for itself. For a team that has bowed out weakly in the playoffs three seasons in a row, a guy like Avery brings something the Rangers could use more of — heart.

Michael- where have you been?

it was also well documented that he had a problem with Dubinski,Valiquette, and after the game vs the stars i bet he now has a problem with Lunqvist.

The problem the Stars had is that With avery and steve ott they had carbon copies of the same pest guy. the other problem avery has is with his “antics” which I love by the way, he tends to overshadow the superstars he plays with. Like he did here with jagr and like hes doing in dallas with Modano.

But Jagr, Dubinsky and Avery were a top line for a long period of time going from the end of the season into the playoffs.

Dubinsky said before the game against Dallas when asked about what it’s like this year (and he said something along the lines of) “The team has a better chemistry now that we don’t have different agendas.”

Though I still love Sean, Sather turned the page on him and there’s no turning back now.

However, I don’t doubt that Sean might end up with a team like Vancouver, Columbus, or the Islanders. We’ll be keeping an eye on the next move in “The Saga of Sean” along with “The Trials and Tribulations of Mats Sundin” (who is said to make his decsion between the 15th and the 19th, when rosters will remain frozen until the 27th.)

Someone’s going to get benched on the defensive end.

Mr. Avery will end up signing with whoever Shanny Signs with, no one. I say we bring em both back, drop Dawes and Prucha, trade Reddin and Kalinin and put the two of them on the points. Any takers?

Gabbi, that might be true but they have been talking about bringing a 7th defense man for a while for this west coast 3 some

interesting to see Jagr sticking up for Avery this morning in the NYT… he definitely had his problems with some Rangers but somehow I don’t think Jags was one of them…

There is no the Garden can afford to take Avery back after his comments. After the Anucha Browns Sanders debacle with the Knicks the Garden is asking for trouble by bringing Avery back after his comments.

It was nice while it lasted but there is no need for a second act with the Broadway Blues!
