The Odds Aren’t Good…Literally

When discussing the Rangers chances in Game 7, a phrase you’ll hear often are: “The odds aren’t good!” I myself have said that seemingly six-dozen times since yesterday’s debacle at the Garden. So it got me thinking…what exactly are the odds that the Rangers win this series? What are the experts putting the number at?

Well, as of now Vegas has them at +230 to go down to the Verizon Center tomorrow and win. For those unfamiliar with the betting process, that means that if you lay out $100 and the Rangers win, you get $230.

Just to put that in perspective, tonight Vegas has both the Blackhawks and Ducks going off at +105 and tomorrow has the Hurricanes at +135.

Ouch.

Today, John Tortorella tried to play up that “us against the world” mentality when he polled the media in the post-practice presser, asking who thought the Rangers would win tomorrow. Not surprisingly nobody raised their hands.

When the feeling amongst those in the know is so unanimous, it’s usually correct. But then again it could be just the motivation the Rangers need to dig down and steal one more game.

This post on Blueshirt Bulletin really sums up my feelings about this series:

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a playoff series where I’m actually looking forward to it being over, but this one has been ugly on and off the ice.

Faced with a massive dillema and the potentially life ending evening that lays out before me…. Got very cheap tickets to tonights devil’s game… will be wearin my Dubi jersey… have about a 95% chance to be meeting at least Mike Motteu(sp) and possibly the whole team… So, for my sake, lets pray I don’t become the laughing stock of the prudential center tonight… This is going to be rough.

To clarify after reading my ramblings – never been to a playoff game before and I coulnt pass this up. So, if you hear about a 23yr old kid in NJ gettin killed by Marty Broduer or the other way around, know, it was ME! LETS GO RANGERS AND LETS GO CAINES!

The Ranger’s chances don’t hinge on how well the Rangers play. Their chances are totally dependent upon how the Caps play. If the Caps show up like they did the last couple of games, then the Rangers are sunk. It pains me to say this, but the Caps are going to show up, and show up HARD for the first ten minutes. That will be our trial by fire. If we can stand that ten minutes, or even score.

(oops) then we have a chance.
