Back up and running as Orr is off and running…(UPDATED)
Sorry for the delay there. The server went down at the worst possible time. As you all probably already know, Colton Orr has signed with Toronto for 4 years at $1 million per season. Expected, but not something I’m happy about.
Update 1:46 p.m.: The Panthers have re-signed David Booth to a 6-year extension. Craig Anderson to Colorado.
Update 1:47 p.m.: TSN is reporting sources are saying that Hossa to Chicago is done.
Update 1:58 p.m.: Zipay’s reporting that the Rangers may be interested in enforcer Brian McGrattan.
Update 2:03 p.m.: Chicago just went nuts. The deal for Hossa is done and the rumor is that it’s for 12 years/$5.2 million per season.
Update 2:23 p.m.: Roloson signs with the Islanders. Obviously insurance for Rick DiPietro. You’ve got to hand it to Garth Snow. He’s certainly being active…
Update 2:41 p.m.: Zipay: Rangers are “close” to first signing…
Update 2:42 p.m.: …and it is Donald Brashear. Horrific signing. This from Daren Millard:

Conflicting reports on whether or not Kovalev has resigned with the Canadians. I heard earlier on NHL Live that he did and now I’m hearing that he didn’t.

This is a heartbreaker, I love that guy… but good for him, he’s well worth $1mm a year imo.

It’s as if Glen Sather is the GM for Chicago or something.

with hossa gone, signs point to gaborik, or maybe a heatly trade. Id rather have gaborik
Gabbi R. July 1st at 1:14 pm
Dale Tallon will be kicking himself next season for making his Hossa deal when Kane and Toews become FA’s.
Gabbi R. July 1st at 1:15 pm
I’d take Cammarelli over Gaborik, personally.
Money Mike July 1st at 1:18 pm
Gaborik has been injury prone, Heatley is a great two way player and he has some real grit to him, I would take him over anyone potentially available right now

Islanders sign Roloson

Brashear is just a rumor. He already signed a 2 year deal to play in Russia.

The thing with heatly is how is he ever going to handle NY? or Torts? He ran from ATL, and now from OTT, either press will eat him alive and next summer he will demand a trade, or torts will give him a firm talking to and he will demand a trade. He is a big baby

NOOOOOOOOOO! NOT BRASHEAR!!!
*frantically begins searcing for reasonable length of rope*

Sorry everyone, but I like it. He’s a mean bastard, and if we were going to get rid of Colton, I’m glad Brashear might be the replacement. Fighting rules.
Inferno July 1st at 1:52 pm
DO NOT WANT.
MIke G July 1st at 1:54 pm
Brashear = no betts either I assume… just whe nI was starting to forgive Sather he pulls this…
Gabbi R. July 1st at 1:57 pm
Brashear is the worst excuse of a hockey player I have seen since Chris Simon. He can’t skate, he can’t shoot. All he is is a GOON. He brings a THUG and cheapshotting mentality to the New York Rangers. I do not want him on the team, now especially after what he did to Bettsy in the playoffs. He only fights and cheapshots people, and most of his fights are staged. He is a disgrace to this league, and Glen Slather (to me) has just deficated on the New York Rangers shield. No matter how much praise I gave him for dumping Gomez, he has sunk to a new low with signing this excuse of a hockey player.

Why Brashear, WHY!!!!! This is a horrible signing! Why would you let an enforcer who can actually play go, and then replace him with a goon who has no buisiness playing in the NHL. I absolutely HATE Brashear! I hope Orr breaks his face the next time we play Toronto!
Ryan F. July 1st at 2:02 pm
How much money is this idiot going to be making! This is why you traded Gomez, to free up cap space for this steaming sack of crap!!!

All the info is in the newest blog post. http://www.nyrangerscast.com/blog/2009/07/01/rangers-sign-brashear/

Ryan, I think youre WAY off base there. Brashear averages about 17 points a season throughout his 15 year career. Orr on the other hand has scored a COMBINED 11 points in his 5 year career.
Brashear is the better play, there is no doubt whatsoever there, hes also a better fighter, a better hitter, and a more intimidating SOB. thats not the point here, the point is that this signing is 100% completely unnecessary.
Gabbi R. July 1st at 2:05 pm
Brashear is set to make $2.8 Million dollars over two seasons.
That’s $1.4 Million, which is more than what Colton Orr was given, and Orr is an ACTUAL hockey player, unlike this goon.
Ryan F. July 1st at 2:12 pm
Inferno, I guess you have a point. But the fact remains that he is a goon, he is not the top tier scorer that we need right now, and I have hated him for his entire career. I don’t care about the freaking stats here! I will never root for this clown!
