Rangers Make Offer to Neil (UPDATED w/ Heatley info and years for Neil)

Darren Dreger is reporting that the Rangers are one of three teams that have tabled an offer for Chris Neil. The other two teams are reportedly the Maple Leafs and Edmonton. One of the teams has made a four-year offer. Sounds pretty Sather-like, no?

It’s good to see the Rangers are focusing on their glaring weakness, scoring. Oh wait, what is that you say? Neil and Brashear aren’t 100 point guys? That’s news to me.

More as it comes in…

Update 4:02 p.m.: Bob McKenzie is reporting that Erik Cole signs a 2 year deal with Carolina and Nikolai Khabibulin signs with Edmonton. So the Oilers finally get someone to agree to play for them!

Update 4:34 p.m.: Former Devils goalie Scott Clemmensen has signed a three-year-deal with Florida.

Update 4:37 p.m.: Bob McKenzie reports that there are no conversations going on between the Rangers and Ottawa when it comes to Dany Heatley. The initial offer included Brandon Dubinsky, but according to McKenzie, Dubi is no longer on the table. If all of this is true, it seems like it’s Oilers or bust.

Update 4:47 p.m.: Word from Darren Dreger is that it is in fact the Rangers who have offered Neil a four-year contract. What is it about Glen Sather and this day? He really seems clueless anytime free agency opens.

Update 5:19 p.m.: Now you can cross Cammalleri off the list. Various reports suggest he’s headed to Montreal. Tick, tock Glennie…

Update 5:56 p.m.: Komisarek signs with the Leafs.

Neil, Avery, and Brashear? Line Brawl Time!!!!! I hope they all grow mustaches too, since this team will lead the league in fighting if the rangers sign Neil. If you are going to play 70’s hockey, look like 70’s hockey, that what I always say!

I can see taking Neil if you lose Orr, but the Brashaer factor negates needed Neil at all… unless, again, Brashear is going to be traded.

You know what, Sather is a friggin moron. This is turning into what we knew it would be, complete and total Sather foolishness.

Perhaps they are stocking up on deterrents to protect an as yet unsigned (and oft injured) superstar…Gaborik, Havlat?

MIke G July 1st at 3:53 pm

I dunno Plebian, cause if Neil takes that retarded offer, I dont think they can afford a sniper…

sully July 1st at 3:59 pm

you give Evgeny Grachev a chance to be a sniper he seems good enough to fulfill that role

Mikey has anyone reported what Niel was offered? (besides 4 years?)

I agree if this signing goes through the cap space is dwindling…but if this is indeed his strategy, perhaps he is not done offloading the inflated contracts (redden/rozival) That OR he is looking to acquire said superstar in a trade for (mostly) numerous prospects and picks.

Why else would he want 2 tough guy enforcers when he knows damn well we need to save room for scoring help?

plebeian, the guy has a track record a mile long, its not like our fears and worries are coming out of left field.

He does the exact same thing in every town he plays, Cheap shots galore, start with Betts,

this guy is going to do what he does, so dont act like we are jumping on him for nothing

Hmm… I see glen is going for the Broadway Bullies for the ‘09-10 team? Thank the good Lord the season’s condensed for the Olympics :)

Scummy July 1st at 4:32 pm

Seriously rediculous… This man never fails at making himself look like a bigger moron than the last time. Why don’t we just pay a bunch of bears to brawl on ice in blue shirts?

Plebeian July 1st at 4:35 pm

I know Rich, I’ve seen the evidence before, but we’re not on the receiving end of it anymore.

Let the other team quiver in their skates for once.

Richard S July 1st at 4:36 pm

how awesome would that be, oveckin across the middle he shoots! and oh no, he got mauled by baloo!

Richard S July 1st at 4:37 pm

this is how other teams feel about facing avery

Scummy July 1st at 4:38 pm

I tell ya what… look out for montreal this season. They seem to be building a short term powerhouse.

Gabbi R. July 1st at 4:47 pm

Well you know that Gainey got Cammarelli for Gomez. Kovalev as their other winger? GAG line part deux.

Drew July 1st at 4:59 pm

If we give Neil the reported 4 years 2.2 mil then i give up. He and Brashear combined for 4 goals last year – not worth 3.6 million total!!!

Does Sather not realize that Antropov, Naslund,Gomez (possibly even Zherdev) made up a large percentage of our scoring which was atrocious in the first place.

Mike Barton July 1st at 7:03 pm

Why does Glen Sather insist upon making this team so damned hard to cheer for. Donald Brashear, Chris Neil, add that to Avery, who I can’t stand and this looks like a remake of Slapshot, we’d have our own version of the Hanson brothers, only it wouldn’t be funny.
