i was looking threw a q&a on ESPN and someone asked scott burnside about the overtime point
heres an exact quote "Is it time to get ride of the OTL point? In what world does it make sense to have dallas in the playoffs(if the season ended today) and leave Vancouver out when Vancouver has 5 more wins. Makes no sense.
Scott Burnside (4:32 PM)

Jim; Agreed, rewarding losses in overtime and shootout with a point is a bit self-defeating and mars the standings in the kinds of cases you point out. But I would be surprised if there is a change because GMs and owners are reluctant to mess with motherhood issues like the point system for fear of disrupting fans' routines."
as for sather one of his answers say "how sather is still the GM for the rangers defies logic"
FYI the question with sather had to do with a fan asking about the possibility of gretzky in NY
