Yeah, that seems about right
So who didn’t see yesterdays shoot-out loss to the Flyers coming from a mile away? Shame on us who gave this team a chance to come up in a big spot when they needed to make the playoffs. We should have known better.
The tumultuous 2009-2010 Rangers season came to a fitting conclusion yesterday in the form of 2-1 SO loss to Philly. It was a game where we saw the Rangers get dominated in every facet of the game, except goaltending. The Blueshirts were out shot 47-25 in a game that was a win or go home scenario. The Rangers are now home.
On our last podcast, Erik and I talked about how even though the Rangers were on a hot streak, you could never put it past this team to fold like a cheap suit. They did it all year. Everytime it looked like the team was on the brink of turning things around, they reminded us harshly that they didn’t have the fortitude to do so. Yesterdays game was another one of those instances. Needing a miracle with 10 games remaining on the schedule, the Rangers did well enough to put their fate in their own hands. Yet, they come out against a far inferior goaltender and lay and gargantuan egg.
Now, the team gets to play golf (or intern at fashion magazines), while the rest of us sit here and wonder if this is the beginning of the end. This team took a drastic dip this season under new coach John Tortorella and GM Glen Sather. Will they be the two leading this club in 2010-2011? Will it be The Captain taking over the reigns? Only time will tell.
What we know right now is this team needs A LOT of work. Henrik and Marian are a good start, but they need much more help than that. In a conference as week as the East, you should be canned if your team doesn’t make the playoffs. I can’t say my hopes were ever that high with this team (I picked them to finish 8th at the start of the season), but with the way the conference shaped out, its truly embarrassing that the Rangers could find themselves in the top half.
Erik and I will have more on our season wrap up show. Erik is out of town until Wednesday, so expect more ranting after that.

we better be thankful we have lundqvist locked up for a while, cuz im sure he just wants to get out of here to a team that scores and gets him wins in stellar games like he had yesterday. anyhow i hope we leave to the messiah to get the next messiah for the garden and im not talking about lebron james

In the immortal words of Dennis Green: “They are who we thought they were.”
Mike G April 13th at 12:27 pm
Good to see Blair Betts get what he deserves… another trip to the playoffs.
What do I want to see in the off season? The loss of Sather (duh), the trade of Drury (not going to happen but one can dream), the retirement of Redden (lol), and the return of Jagr to the NHL.
Also, at the end of the day… I feel that Zherdev could’ve helped this team…
Richard S. April 13th at 2:03 pm
i forgot about that. Jagr said he wants to come back, and that means the Rangers are gonna be near the top of his list of teams he wants to go back to. I wonder how much he will want?
sully April 13th at 4:08 pm
if messier because GM it be hope to him sign the next messier in 4 years from now when they finally burn redden’s contract.
anyhow the best thing that could happen is that james dolan sells the rangers and knicks
Richard S. April 13th at 4:24 pm
I dont know if anyone can afford the rangers, knicks, MSG, and radio city music hall. At least not anyone who want to buy the train wreck that is MSG Inc..
sully April 13th at 7:37 pm
any idea who the rangers will pick this year at number 10?
Richard S. April 14th at 11:33 am
well, TSn has DEREK FORBORT listed as the #10 prospect
http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=7322
He is a big defenseman, but I think they need more scoring because with Staal, Girardi, Del Zotto, and Sangunetti they are pretty set in the D department.
Id say if they were lucky enough to land RYAN JOHANSEN a 6′3” 188lb center that would be awesome.
sully April 14th at 5:51 pm
is there anyone that might play this upcoming year o rolny people who are a year away
Richard S. April 15th at 11:57 am
the only ones ones that are, are the ones that are gonna go way before the Rangers pick. Plus they have a ton of youth in the wings ready to come up
sully April 15th at 6:58 pm
i see your point i just love watching rookies play, especially under 20 players, it gives you hope of the future
sully April 15th at 7:59 pm

Richard S. April 17th at 5:01 am
So here is the skinny on the supposed new free agent the Rangers just signed or are just about to sign.
Mats Zuccarello Aasen
Birthyear: 1987-09-01
Birthplace: Oslo, NOR
Age: 22
Nation: Norway
Position: RW
Shoots: L
Height: 171 cm / 5′7″
Weight: 73 kg / 161 lbs
and here are his stats this season as the league leader in points for the Swedish elite league
GP 55 G 23 A 41 PTS 64
His scouting report
ASSETS: Fantastic technical skills and great passing ability. Can finish with a bomb. A magician who can do spectacular things with the puck. Great vision and can man the power play point. Defensively responsible and doesn’t mind heavy traffic.
FLAWS: Size and strength. Not a great physical player.
Looks like It could be a more talented Theo Fleury. What do you guys think?
Oh and all this comes courtesy of eliteprospects.com
sully April 17th at 11:07 pm
i guess a cheap signing like him keeps more money available for a marleau type players, i want him get some youth here.
gregg m April 19th at 12:22 am
i am still wearing my rangers hat so that i can feel free to go on a 30 minute rant about tortorella and sather when anyone comments about it!
Richard S. April 19th at 2:50 pm
whats there to say about torts and slats? Everyone knows that Slats needed to go about 5 years ago, Torts is another question.
I don’t like him, and I don’t think he has a place in hockey. He is too much of a hothead, and as we saw this year, the team and any other team stopped responding to the yelling and berating. Its a lot like the old football coaches from the 60’s to now. When players make millions of dollars a year, they don’t want to be yelled at. they want to be coddled.
I think even the players understand that yelling is SOMETIMES necessary, but Torts think that it is ALWAYS necessary.
I change my mind. He’d be perfect for the Flyers, but the Rangers need a new coach. How about the guy from Hartford?
Parker April 26th at 5:37 pm
this guy seems perfect for us. http://www.hartfordwolfpack.com/default.asp?wolfpack=29&urlkeyword=coaches
Richard S. April 28th at 10:04 pm
first time for everything I guess. I actually found myself rooting for the Habs
Plebeian May 20th at 12:14 pm
So much for a season wrap up show.
Ryan F. May 22nd at 8:35 pm
Are you guys still alive? Seriously, I’m getting worried!
Teresa May 23rd at 7:02 am
I was thinking the same thing, Ryan.
Are you guys ok?
Scummy May 24th at 3:24 pm
*Pin Drop*
sully May 24th at 9:41 pm
to think we were one shoot-out away from eliminating philidelphia, i think i feel worse now then at the end of the regular season knowing this could of been the rangers in the stanley cup
Ryan F. May 25th at 8:37 pm
R.I.P. nyrangerscast. I will always remember the good times.
Richard S. May 26th at 1:36 pm
these guys never took this seriously, they did 16 shows this year. thats it
Plebeian June 1st at 4:24 pm
I don’t mind the lack of shows…but not updating the picture and bio on the “about” page has been grating on my nerves all season. C’mon Ericks, get with the program already.
Richard S. June 1st at 8:23 pm
the lack of shows does get me, 16 this year, an average of 60 per year the previous 2. thats a huge drop off. Its the NYRangersCAST, not NYRangersBLOG
sully June 1st at 10:18 pm
today is the 10th anniversary of the worst thing to ever happen to the rangers, on this date 10 years ago the rangers announced the naming of glenn sather gm, the daily news wrote an article about how bad these ten years have been
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/rangers/2010/06/01/2010-06-01_sathers_imperfect_10.html
the article notes how sather said you cant buy a winner, but all he’s done was try to buy one, and it notes how until really drafting mark staal hes been a terrible drafter
Plebeian June 3rd at 3:33 pm
Rich, It’s not like we pay for this site. It’s a bummer, but I cant fault them not wanting to go through the hassle of recording shows for free.
Plus I think they graduate this year no? They will have better things to do pretty soon.
Plebeian June 3rd at 3:33 pm
P.S. Glenn Sather can eat my farts
sully June 26th at 11:45 pm
since eric and erik gone missing whats everybody’s opinion on the draft and the sanguinetti trade?
Richard S. June 27th at 2:25 pm
i was wondering that myself. They got the two toughest guys in juniors, but will they really help? 10 is a tough spot.
sully July 1st at 11:33 am
marty biron signs two year deal with the rangers
Plebeian July 12th at 10:22 am
The silence here makes the title of the last podcast so ironic.
Ryan F. July 13th at 6:12 pm
HOLY CRAP!!!! I just realized it’s been three months since we last heard from these guys!
Richard S. July 22nd at 3:09 am
LOL, im gonna write their boss and try to get their job. I dont have a job. I have plenty of time for this thing
ninedarter July 23rd at 12:03 am
Okay, so whatever happens to NYRangerscast in the future:
Massive thanks to Steven, Eric and Erik for all the good times you’ve provided to us fans over three seasons.
Boring days in the lab laughing out loud at Eric’s nicknames for Strudwick, and so much more. Free of charge, and without getting paid yourselves, as far as I understand.
Hoping for a return. If not, thanks anyway!
Teresa August 26th at 6:25 pm
They’re alive!!
Plebeian August 31st at 4:34 pm
Teresa, are you privy to some sort of insider info that we don’t have? What do you mean they’re alive?
Teresa August 31st at 8:08 pm
There was an update on the twitter link. Not much there, but at least it is something.
sully September 1st at 6:15 pm
i emailed erik, he said something about them wanting to do it this year but not sure because they have a future to think about
Ryan F. September 4th at 12:38 am
Nice to know they’re still alive! If they don’t want to continue with the podcast that’s fine. From what I understand they don’t really get paid for this anyway. But they could at least do one farewell show!
Plebeian October 11th at 7:50 am
OK, Season opener 2 days passed, this site is officially dead I guess
