Rissmiller Placed On Waivers

by Eric Rothman - posted Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

As reported by TSN earlier today and confirmed by the Rangers early this afternoon, Patrick Rissmiller has been placed on waivers.

If Rissmiller does not get claimed by another team, he will be sent to Hartford. If the Rangers choose to bring Rissmiller back up at some point, he would have to clear waivers again.

The writing was on the wall from the beginning of the season. Too many forwards, not enough time to go around. Rissmiller has been the one guy that hasn’t earned a spot on the club in the small chunks of playing time he’s gotten.

Could Rissmiller be picked up by another team? Sure.

If he doesn’t, will he be coming back up to the Rangers anytime soon? Doubtful.

In other news, TSN is also reporting that the NHL is in preliminary talks about possibly adding another franchise in Toronto.

According to the report, Jim Balsillie, the co-CEO of Waterloo, Ontario-based Research in Motion Ltd. is the most likely owner of the team.

Balsillie aided in the financial restoration of the Nashville Predators organization.

This was one of the cities I said needed another team if the NHL were to expand. But, I still firmly believe the NHL is not in a place to expand at the moment. But, money trumps all and obviously Commissioner Gary Bettman sees untapped money in Toronto.
